Hello world!

This is a view of the river from my houseboat

Welcome to Double Barrel Outdoors.  I am a General Engineering Contractor by trade and a fisherman, hunter and a photographer by choice, Ooops, almost forgot the beer drinker, lover of fine and not so fine cuisine and procrastinator extraordinaire part and due to unfortunate or fortunate circumstances depending on how you look at it my lifestyle finally caught up with me forcing an early retirement.

As I can no longer pursue my career with the vigor and intensity needed to succeed in today’s economic environment I am going to turn my attentions to the things I love to do the most, Photography, Fishing and Hunting. My intention is to share photos and descriptions of my outdoor adventures.. My focus will be to photograph wildlife as it interacts with nature as well as the beautiful sunsets and landscapes I encounter. I’ll throw in some fish pics as we catch them and a recipe or two on how to prepare fish and wild game as appropriate to the season..   Thanks for taking the time to read this introduction and please stay tuned for more. On closing I’ll leave you with a pic of the delta neighborhood I lived in. I am now in Oregon fishing for Salmon..

Holy mother of tarnation that was a great read ! I am happy that you have the courage to do what you Love and get healthy while doing it, in this day and age it is what I feel is and takes the “right stuff”.

    • Money is a problem right now. I am currently a participant in a Move group at the VA it has helped me a bunch. I guess its the poor mans version of the Pritikin Center. It’s pretty much about changing a lifestyle that I have become comfortable with over the last 55 years. The changes are coming slow but sure. Thanks for your suggestion, I always said if I won the lottery the first thing I would do would be to check myself into the fat farm..Ha ha.ight now I have just checked into the poor man’s version but it has been effective. Ciao for now.

    • April 🙂 always great to hear from you! Thanks for the encouraging words sometimes I think we forget that changing a lifestyle also requires re examining our spiritual side as well. Hope all is well with you, stay in touch I am looking forward to seeing some of your photos. Remember good words go well with good photos, God gave us a beautiful place to live so the more we can share it’s beauty the less inclined people may be to destroy it.

Hutch, that’s great! I wish you the best! We’re kind of in the same situation, I’m only a few months into my change of lifestyle, fortunately I managed to avoid the hospital stay. Pizza Burgers & Fries were things I ate a lot. I’d get stressed out at work, I’d come home and eat junk. I couldn’t seem to stop eating junk, I was addicted to it and of course I didn’t have the energy to exercise. I made a choice to treat Pizza Burgers Sugary crap and the like, like it’s poison, just stay away… Diets suck and they don’t work, eat the right stuff, vegetables, fruits, whole grain cerials, I eat all I want and exercise regularly and the weight is coming off, 50 pounds so far and I feel great. It’s totally worth it Hutch, good luck!

    • Dude I’m with ya! Its all about change of lifestyle. The word diet to me is temporary term, something you do till you lose your weight then go back to what you were doing. Those days of working till you drop and grab whatever for dinner are over it never got me anywhere anyway I’m still broke. All that worrying for nothing.
I like the pics you post of your walks, good on you for making a concentrated effort to change your lifestyle in addition to giving people a little glimpse of the beauty most of em just rush on by. Please feel free to post updates on your progress don’t forget the pics.
